Fur fetishism can be defined two ways; either as a fetish for animal-derived or synthetic animal pelts, either as a stand-alone item, or manufactured into clothing; or as a transmophic fetish, also known as "furry fandom", "furdom" or "yiffy". For the latter definition, please see yiffy.

Fur fetishism is a sexual arousal by the sensory experience of animal fur. (In most cases, animal pelts and skins, but in some cases the fetish applies to synthetic furs as well.) While in most cases, the fetish is a tactile one, the specifics of the sensory and psychological appeal varies by the individual.

Because of the stigma associated with the perceptions of animal cruelty associated with fur, some fetishists experience difficulty within the fetish sub-culture.
